A woman has a great role in the development of every society. Women play an important role in building up the society and nations. Without involvement of women, the society cannot exist. No one can refuse the progress of women in the construction of society. Women have always played their best role as a mother, wife, daughter and sister in every stage of life. Women are working consistently in every field of life, same as men do, like Politics, Education, Health, Services, Economy, Business and many more. According to the last report in 2011, overall population of women in Pakistan was 49.19 %. It means that half of the population of Pakistan is women. Employed women’s ratio in Pakistan is 17.70%, and it is the highest value over the past 30 years till 2011 and the rest are unemployed. Working women are in every field of life in Pakistan, and its ratio is going upward day by day, but they are facing many problems as well. Besides facing many problems, women in Pakistan face three major problems: gender discrimination, lack of independence and arranged marriage.

Gender Discrimination

Problems women faces in Pakistan

Women suffer a lot from gender discrimination in Pakistani society. Gender discrimination became the key issue in our society. Now a day’s lots of government and non-governmental organization are working hard to solve this issue. There are two wide group of human being; they are different from each other on the bases of nature, duties and responsibilities on the bases of sex. If we talk about gender discrimination, both men and women are involved in it. In Pakistani society, women face more problems related to this issue and they have to face it. There are some basic discrimination problems which includes discrimination in education. It means families are not supporting girls to study further and the girl also thinks that after some years, I’ll get marry so why need to study and second, they don’t have proper facilities to get equal education. Discrimination at work field, it is also a big problem, that there is a difference in the same work place. A strict sexual division has been made between man and women at the work fields. Women are restricted physically at work place and they don’t have full access to the dominant point to enhance their capabilities. There is open inequality at every field in Pakistan.

Lack of independence

Women Problems

Independence is the most important thing for a women personality development. In our society women is not independent. They are mostly stuck at homes. There are many places such as rural areas where women don’t even know that we have freedom and rights. What they do is all belong to their family or individual person, and what they show all ready-made. According to a report 90% of Pakistani household women are under the hands of men’s power and mostly of them are poor. Women’s independence is such a hide thing in our society. For example, a girl she has to live with their parents. She gets education, lives for her parents, relatives and society. When she becomes a woman, she has to get married, because everyone in her community starts talking about her. After getting married she went to her husband’s house and their husband made his own laws on that she has to follow it. So women are restricted in every stage of life.

Arrange marriage is the root of many social and family issues in our society. It is also called somewhat forced marriage. There is a difference between arranged and forced marriage. In forced marriage, women are not been asked by their parents, while other people choose life partner for them. In our society there is no freedom of expression for women to choose her life partner by her own. It is the main issue where couples understanding become destructive. Mostly, women are not able to speak in front of her family and elders. During choosing partner for her they have left with a little choice. Emotional black mailing is involved in it, and at last, the downfalls come in relationships.

Women are facing many problems, but there are solutions for these problems as well. There may be gender discrimination in our society, but as we all know we are living in a Muslim state, and in Islam there are certain laws and acts on which the women should go. Gender discrimination also takes place because of religious scholars. Their perception is also gender base. So it’s creating gender discrimination. Secondly, our culture and customs are also having influence on gender discrimination. There are different culture and customs in our society. Independence is required for women’s personality, but it does not usually exist here in our society. From her childhood and becoming grandma time and till waiting for death the women is only dominant in her home. She lives for her husband and for her child’s. Where her own way of life is not there. It is sad. They are not aware of it. There must be proper awareness for them. Once they become aware and knows her value, then she will live for herself also.

Arrange Marriages

Arrange marriages are also a major problem. Islam also says about ‘Right to Ask’ from women about her decision. The society must perform this. On one side, we are in favor of Islamic law about women and on the other side, we are ignoring it. It shouldn’t be like this. Women cannot be forced to marry. She would have a right to speak and take decision as well. Lastly, I would say Pakistani society is male dominating society. Where women don’t have power to take her decision for their rights or even speak about it. Many government and non-governmental organizations are working on women’s issues and I hope the result will come positive at the end.

But we can solve these problems by taking different steps. i.e Bringing awareness in the communities, specially in rural areas about women rights. Once we solve these problems, we will be able to achieve respectable status in the line of nations.
